Proven and tested as the world’s safest and most comfortable crutch, hugely successful in America, the UK, recently introduced into Europe and now in Southern Africa

In launching the Smart Crutch into Southern Africa, we decided to offer all motor, motorsport and all sporting competitors an introduction discount of 20% which they can take up and order online. “There is no time limit on this offer,” said Smart Crutch CEO Colin Albertyn. As it’s not a product that ones needs immediately, hence no time limit. The only information needed is the club and which sport category you are taking part in. The reason why we are offering this is we felt we should put something back into sport and also know very well what competitors go through when having to use crutches,” said Albertyn
South African born Colin Albertyn the CEO of Smart Crutch International, Ex Motocross rider and brother of the multiple World and SA National Motocross champion Greg Albertyn. Colin is the creator of this new unique innovative Smart Crutch that has taken the international industry by storm. “My family comes from an off-road, Motocross, motorsport and sporting background and part of the territory in sport means spending some time on crutches through various leg, knee or ankle injuries. I myself have spent my fair share of time on crutches. After I finished my army service, I snapped my Achilles tendon and had to spend 8 weeks on crutches. I was off of them for one day and forgot about the injury resulting in it snapping again.”
“This forced me back onto crutches for another eight weeks, and I decided right then to design a new crutch that does not cause pain, discomfort and agony. That’s when I started working on the concept of the SmartCrutch. It’s been a long hard process, taking the idea from concept to manufacturing and then to market. It’s was also a huge challenge with things like patents, prototyping, development, medical restrictions, FDA and CE compliance, funding and the nightmare of manufacturing to mention a few. We also had to make them look stunning with the full range of attractive colours.”
“All available crutches today cause huge pressure, strain and damage to one’s hands or underarms. We came up with a crutch that dealt with these issues. In America, many prefer to use underarm crutches. Although the intention is for the hands to bear the weight, the hands experience extreme pressure often resulting in immense pain and nerve damage. People tend to carry the weight under their arms, which can also cause all sorts of damage to muscles and nerves. I started working on the concept, trying to figure out how it could be more comfortable, especially for long-term users. Our concept was to distribute the weight across the forearm area, instead of just your hands or underarms.” said Albertyn
Together with an engineer we put his ideas into a manufacturable product spending many months on the computer designing the SmartCrutch. It was a long process from the prototype to getting a final product that worked and was well accepted. The company is still developing and growing daily. They are now selling the brand successfully worldwide, currently both online and through appointed distributors in 15 countries. With factories and assemblers in a number of countries.
